Accidentally applying Xylonor numbing gel to the patient’s lips instead of vaseline to do a plaque free score |

Name
Rachel Emmott Contact E-mail [email protected] Hometown Manchester Why did you go for this position? I enjoy being organised and having a more general role on the committee so I can help everyone and keep DentSoc running smoothly! What is your funniest dental story? After I had finished seeing my patient and sent him home, when I got back to clean the bay I noticed I’d left his dentures still sitting in the pot on the side! I had to quickly try to get hold of him before he got too far away from the Dental School and apologise profusely! |

I also really enjoy editing the LUDS website, keeping the Instagram looking fresh and sharing classic dental memes on Snapchat. What is your funniest dental story? Picture myself treating patients on the 4th Year Acute clinic, for one patient to turn around and ask if I was enjoying my work experience and when I would leave high school... AWKWARD! |

Louisa Jarvie Contact E-mail [email protected] Hometown Birmingham (well just outside) Why did you go for this position? I enjoyed being on committee last year and wanted to try a different role this year. Always quite liked finances so thought I'd give it a go! What is your funniest dental story? Had a patient in the chair and whilst working on their teeth they jumped and said "ahhh". Naturally I was quite concerned and asked what was wrong, to which they replied "gotcha!" - they had faked the whole thing!! |

Imran: I was looking for a 2 year role which involved both working within the Dentsoc comittee and a wider comittee (BDSA). The role involves shaping the future of dentistry for students and discussing political issues in our profession. Also it's great having a role in organising huge events like the BDSA sports day! What is your funniest dental story? Jas: Don't have a clue! Imran: A routine crowns appointment got a little strange when the patient mentioned he'd swallowed his temporary crown, fished it out of the toilet gave it a quick clean and re-cemented it with super glue!! |

|
Name
Henry Staley Contact E-mail [email protected] Hometown I'm from Derby originally, a very small city compared to Leeds! Why did you go for this position? I chose this role because I love working with people and companies and wanted to practice my business and negotiation skills. What is your funniest dental story? When I gave my first ID Block injection, the patient bit down so hard on my thumb that it ripped my glove and I was forced to report it as a needle stick incident- I was not impressed. |

Lucía Bravo-Batley and Madeleine Rann Contact E-mails [email protected] and [email protected] Hometowns Lucía: Boston Spa, Leeds Maddie: Beverley, East Yorkshire Why did you go for this position? We're the ball secs because as two glamour qweeens we wanted to organise the glitziest, most fabulous and all round best event of the dental calendar. What is your funniest dental story? Lucía: My first ever patient had a gold crown which I complimented him on during his check-up. A week later he walks in, asks me to put my hand out and drops his gold tooth in it, insisting it was a gift for me. Maddie: Whilst demonstrating ultrasonic scaling on clinics, our tutor (you can guess who it was) tells us that we don't need to go at it like a cowboy, then gives a loud yee-ha with lassooing action, pretty sure some of the nurses were traumatised. |

Charity Representative
|
Name
Phoebe Cameron Contact E-mail [email protected] Hometown Wirral Why did you go for this position? I recently spent some time visiting Alderhey Children's Hospital and not until then did I recognise the importance of charities such as The Teenage Cancer Trust and many others that help those in need. It's amazing how much it can change a person's outlook on life even when they're struggling or at their worst! I wanted to do my part, so for that reason I couldn't be happier as your charity rep this year! What is your funniest dental story? One evening after a hard and stressful day in labs, we all decided to go to the Christmas beer tent to relax, including our two tutors. After a few (few too many), our night ended in one of the guys picking our tutor up and spinning him around dirty dancing style. Oh, and they were very very close to being convinced to come to the club with us! |
H&T Representative
|
Name
Kelly Cattle Contact E-mail [email protected] Hometown Hull Why did you go for this position? I applied for the role to ensure the H&T’s where represented. Within the role I want to make sure they are intergrated with the dentists and have a fabulous 3 years at Leeds. What is your funniest dental story? While working on clinic one day, I was scaling a patients teeth. In the excitement I accidentally push the foot pedal that worked the scaler before placing the scaler in the patients mouth. The patient got a full shower, they were soaking wet. I was horrified and couldn’t stop apologising but they saw the funny side and we laughed it off together. They still make jokes about getting a free shower at their visits now. |

Names
Aisha Patel and Serena Halsall Contact E-mails [email protected] and [email protected] Hometowns Aisha: Leicester Serena: Liverpool Why did you go for this position? Aisha: After being a PASS leader during my 2nd year, I wanted to be more involved with improving the educational support students receive. Serena: I chose this role to carry on the Peer Assisted Study Support (PASS) sessions. This role is super adaptable, so when any exciting opportunities come along, Aisha and I can develop them to really make a difference for other students. What is your funniest dental story? Aisha: One of my favourite memories of dental school so far is the BDSA sports day in London. The fancy dress theme was flamingoes, so there were around 100 dental students running around dressed in pink tutus and feather boas, which as you can imagine attracted a lot of attention and made it into quite a few snapchat stories! Serena: Wearing my scrubs inside out on clinic all day... I rocked it. |
Sports Secretaries
|
Names
Simren Patel and Joe Donaldson Contact E-mails [email protected] and [email protected] Hometowns Simren: Essex Joe`: Manchester Why did you go for this position? Simren: BDSA sports day is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable events in the dental calendar. For that reason I wanted to be the one to take a group of dental students to bring home the trophy... sadly we didnt manage it this year. I also wanted to introduce new sports events such a staff vs student sports day and zorbing. All of these are excellent ways to get to know other years and get them involved wherever possible. Joe: Sports are something I really enjoy both in and out of the dental school so I thought I could do something productive for LUDS. What is your funniest dental story? Simren: When I did my first LA on clinic on a patient, I became faint and ended up passing out on the patient. Joe: Chipped a fellow students tooth on a night out in freshers |
