Our members have always received immense praise for their charitable efforts, by their friends, families, staff, community and of course the Charities that they fundraise and increase awareness for.
At the start of each new academic year we carefully and mindfully select a new charity that we feel strongly towards and endeavour to raise money and awareness throughout the year.
Our Charity for 2017/18...
Each year, Leeds Dental School works hard to raise money for our new chosen charity. Fundraising events that involve everyone are carried out to raise as much money as possible, in the most enjoyable way. This year we are delighted to support the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Even the word Cancer is frightening for anybody that is affected, especially young people. Around seven people aged 13 to 24 are diagnosed with Cancer every day. The Teenage Cancer Trust works tremendously hard to ensure these people are helped every step of their treatment by providing the vital support they need.
The mouth cancer Foundation is a small charity which concentrates on supporting patients, carers and survivors through an online forum.
The most important part of fundraising for Oral Cancer Charities is to raise awareness.
Oral Cancer is the sixth most common Cancer, and most people are unaware of the causes or the signs and symptoms that could be detected early on. Early detection is key for survival.
Therefore, we have one common goal, which is to raise awareness of the risk factors of Oral Cancer. Leeds Dental School will be involved in Oral Cancer Awareness Month in November by holding a stall along with handing out leaflets and merchandise illustrating the signs and symptoms.
